Statistical Comparison Measures for Searching in Melody Databases

چکیده

In this paper, we investigate the task of melodic similarity search in large melody databases with special interest in the case where the melody looked for is not part of the database. We discuss some basic questions concerning this issue and devise a technical framework for a potential solution. The main part discusses several statistical measures for their quality as melodic comparison measure. Aside from examining some well-known statistical measures, we propose two newly-designed ones which seem to be good candidates for comparing pitch progressions.
